Terms of Service · Last updated 2026-05-08

The deal, in plain English.

By using Avows you agree to these terms. If you don't, that's fine — don't use the app. We tried to keep this short. The 90-second version is in the boxes below; the rest is the legalese version of the same thing.

Avows is not your tax advisor, doctor, or HSA plan administrator. The classifier guesses based on IRS Publication 502 and is wrong sometimes. Always confirm eligibility with your plan administrator before claiming. Don't sue us if a claim gets denied.

What Avows does

Avows is a browser-based receipt vault that classifies HSA / FSA line items against IRS Publication 502 using Google Gemini. It also generates Letter of Medical Necessity drafts, exports tax-time PDFs, and (Cloud tier) syncs receipts across your devices.

Not advice

Nothing in Avows is legal, tax, medical, or financial advice. The eligibility classifications are AI-generated guesses grounded in Pub 502 and the IRS Notices it references — they're useful, not authoritative. Plans vary, and your plan administrator's word always wins. Confirm before submitting any reimbursement claim.

Acceptable use

Service availability

We aim for the app to "just work" but make no uptime guarantees. Avows is a small operation; if Cloudflare or Google Drive or Google Gemini has an outage, you may see degraded service. Browser-only mode (device backend) keeps working without internet for everything except the AI classifier.

Changes to the service

We may add or remove features. If we remove a feature you actively use, we'll give 30 days' notice and a way to export your data first. If we shut down entirely (god forbid), we'll give 60 days' notice and a final export window.

Liability

To the maximum extent the law allows, Avows is provided "as is." We're not liable for indirect or consequential damages, lost reimbursement opportunities, or any amount above what you've paid us in the prior 12 months. If you live somewhere that doesn't allow these limitations, the strictest version your law allows applies.

Termination

You can stop using Avows anytime. We may suspend an account that violates these terms (specifically the acceptable-use list). Either way, your data export remains available for at least 30 days after termination — email us if you need it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, excluding its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute we can't resolve by talking gets settled in Delaware courts. (If you're outside the US, your local consumer-protection laws still apply where they grant stronger rights.)
